Cherry blossoms are the top tourist attraction in Japan, and you can enjoy them not only by appreciating the views but also a variety of cherry blossom themed products, which are available only limited time of the year.

Before the actual cherry blossom season begins, a lot of shops and brands start releasing limited-edition cherry blossom themed products in Japan. Especially, Sakura flavour/inspired food and drinks are extremely popular during the season including the Starbucks Japan’s cherry blossom frappuccino.

If you are travelling to Japan during or earlier than the cherry blossom season, you have amazing opportunity to enjoy delightful and elegant Sakura food and drinks!

 In this article, I’d like to share some of must-try cherry blossom food and drinks which are released in Japan for 2020 Spring! So let’s check them out 🙂

-Pocky

The popular Japanese chocolate snack, Pocky by Glico is available with two limited-edition flavours for 2020 spring.

 Pocky from Japan Sakura Shitate (cherry blossom flavour) with buttered pretzel sticks coated with cherry blossom chocolate and Pocky Sakura Matcha (cherry blossom and matcha) with cherry blossom flavoured pretzel sticks coated by rich Uji matcha chocolate.

-Cream Colon

Along with Pocky, Cream Collon is also a top-selling sweets produced by the well known Japanese confectionery brand, Glico. It’s mini-sized cylindrical shaped crispy waffle filled with cream.

The limited version of Cream Colon for 2020 spring is Sakura Matcha flavour served with bitter Matcha waffles and sweet cherry flavoured cream.

-Tokyo Banana

Tokyo Banana is a popular souvenir sweets widely sold at Tokyo’s airports and stations. It’s fluffy sponge cake filled with Banana custard cream, but nowadays available with many different flavours including seasonal ones.

In 2020 spring, Tokyo Banana Sakura Flavour will be released that comes with cute pink petals printed and filled with Banana custard cream with a hint of cherry blossom flavours.

-Starbucks Japan Sakura Beverage

Starbucks Japan releases spring-limited Sakura theme beverage every year, and they are highly anticipated. On 15 February, Sakura Milk Pudding Frappuccino (cold) and Sakura Milk Latte will be released as the first edition of their Sakura beverage 2020.

The largest Starbucks branch in Japan, STARBUCKS RESERVE® ROASTERY TOKYO will be releasing its first own Sakura collections featuring original merchandise and beverage. 6 cherry blossom inspired drinks will be available from 15 February for a limited time.

-Starbucks Chilled Cup

The new beverage from Starbucks Japan’s Chilled Cup series is “Sakura White Chocolate Cheesecake with Milk Pudding”, and it will be available at convenience stores across the country. It’s rich and creamy white chocolate cheesecake flavoured milk with a hit of cherry blossom scent and the unique texture of milk pudding. The drink is served in a cherry blossom inspired limited design package.

-Starbucks Spring Blend

Starbucks Coffee releases a range of the special blend coffee for home use with spring-edit packages. The Starbucks Spring Blend Coffee series is available with grounded coffee, whole coffee beans or personal drip coffee bag. They go on sale from 14 February at supermarket and Nestle online shop (they won’t be sold at Starbucks stores!), and the special gift set “Spring Cheer Gift” is only available at Nestle online shop from 28 February.

THE ALLEY is one of the most popular bubble tea (Tapioca Tea) shops in the world and currently has branches at many locations in Japan. The spring-limited drinks “Sakura Flavour Soy Tea Smoothie” and “Sakura Soy Matcha Late”. The delightful drinks are made with selected fine quality tea leaves and the rich Sakura flavours.

-Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola Japan releases limited design bottles in spring annually. The 250 ml glass bottle has special Sakura themed design as if the cherry blossoms petals are falling over the bottle. Available at supermarkets, convenience stores, grocery stores in Japan from mid January.

-Asahi Super Dry

The top-selling Japanese beer, Asahi Super Dry joins the cherry blossom celebration with the limited designed cans and glass bottles with cute pink and cherry blossoms.

The cans will be sold widely in Japan while the glass bottles are only available with reservation order system.

-KIRIN BEER

Along with Asahi, KIRIN is another most famous Japanese beer brand and it’s also releasing canned beer with special cherry blossom design available in 3 different sizes (135ml, 350ml, 500ml).

Although both brands offers only Sakura packages (not flavours), these beer will surely bring your spring vibes. If you are planning to have Hanami (cherry blossom viewing party), how about making a toast with these Sakura themed beers this spring??

-Lipton

The famous tea company, Lipton offers various unique flavour teas in Japan which are served as tea bags or drinks in paper containers. The spring-only Sakura flavour milk tea “SAKURA TEA LATTE” will be released with limited package.

-LUPICIA

The popular tea and teaware retailer, LUPICIA offers a wide range of teas including seasonal flavours and regional-limited flavours. In 2020 spring, the brand offers Japan-limited Sakura flavour tea with real cherry blossom extract. The limited designed package is also available only this time of the year.

-Pokemon Cafe Tokyo

The limited time Sakura theme dish and drink will be available on the menu at Pokemon Cafe Tokyo from 14 March to 19 April. The delightful cherry blossoms collaborate with adorable Pikachu: Sakura Afro Pikachu Fruit Sandwich Cake and Sakura Afro Pikachu Latte available from 14 March to 19 April in 2020 only.

The Italian bakery run by Starbucks Japan, Princi is offering a spring-limited menu inspired by cherry blossoms including salad, pastry and dessert. -BOTANIST TOKYO

The popular Japanese hair care brand, BOTANIST’s flagship store is located in Omotesando/Harajuku area in Tokyo, and the store has a cafe on the 2nd floor. Various healthy and tasty food and drinks are served at the cafe.

The New York based burger chain, Shake Shack has over 10 branches in Japan including Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. The shop offers two spring season limited shakes at their stores in Japan.

Shack-ura Shake Sakura will be available from 20 January to 29 February, followed by Shack-ura Shake Cherry & Sakura from 1 to 31 March, both are served with limited-edition cherry blossom cups.
