Sapporo White Illumination is a classical winter illumination event held in Sapporo City in Hokkaido annually, which can be enjoyed with the authentic German Christmas Market and the famous Sapporo Snow Festival!
Winter Illuminations are one of the top winter attractions in Japan, and numbers of spectacular illumination events are held across the country during winter. Sapporo White Illumination (さっぽろホワイトイルミネーション) is one of the most popular and long-running illumination events in Japan, which is held in the capital city of Hokkaido, Sapporo annually.
The 40th Sapporo White Illumination will be held from 20 November 2020 to 14 March 2020. The colourful and romantic illuminations will take place at several locations in Sapporo City including Odori Park which is the venue for Sapporo Snow Festival. The spectacular illuminations can be enjoyed with the famous winter event during the season!
Celebrating for a being sister city of Munich for 30 years, Sapporo first started hosting a German style Christmas Market during Christmas season back in 2002, and the German Christmas Market in Sapporo is held annually for a limited time until Christmas with over numbers of stalls, offering authentic Christmas food, drinks and craft items as well as Christmas tree objects. Visitors enjoy festive winter illumination along with classic Christmas ornaments and lights.
Sadly, the German Christmas Market will not be held in 2020 due to prevent further spread of Coronavirus.
Following the German Christmas Market, Sapporo White Illumination can be enjoyed with another spectacular and very anticipating winter event in the city. The 71st Sapporo Snow Festival will be held from 4 to 11 February 2021 (from 31 January at Tsu dome). The snow and ice artworks are collaborated with special light effects and can be enjoyed after dark.
