NAKED FLOWERS 2023 Autumn at Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site in Kyoto

NAKED FLOWERS 2023 Autumn at Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site will be held from October 27 (Friday) to December 3 (Sunday), 2023. This event is part of the NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2023 Autumn Garden, an urban event where the real and virtual cross over.

NAKED FLOWERS, created by the creative company NAKED, INC. is an interactive art exhibition with a floral motif held at Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site. Nijo Castle was built in 1603 as the Kyoto residence for the first shogun of Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and offers something different from temples and shrines, as a beautiful and photogenic garden. NAKED FLOWERS has become a popular annual event in Kyoto, with illuminations that change according to the season, such as NAKED FLOWERS 2023 Cherry Blossoms at Nijo Castle in Spring.
For this Autumn 2023 NAKED and Ikenobo, the headmaster of the Ikebana school of flower arrangement, will collaborate to expand the area of the exhibition and update the traditional Japanese culture of ikebana.

Artworks
Karamon Gate
Karamon Gate, the main gate of Nijo Castle, will welcome visitors with a projection mapping of Autumn leaves, silver grass, peonies and other flowers and the sound of bell bugs. A preview to the fantastic flower castle that lies ahead.
Ninomaru Palace
A path of flowers and light, with ikebana flowers created by Iemoto Ikenobo, director of the Ikebana flower arrangement school, lit up under the moonlight.
Ninomaru Garden
Overlooking the Ninomaru Garden, one of the most beautiful spots of the Nijo Castle, an elegant and dynamic projection mapping of flowers and grasses will be displayed in front of the hall of Ninomaru Palace, a National Treasure, with musical instruments.
Inner moat
Under the moonlight, flowers bloom one after another on the inner moat of Nijo Castle, dancing in the reflections of the water. An interactive projection mapping.
Tea House
The tea house will be illuminated in autumn tones, offering a majestic garden scene.
Seiryu-en Garden
Autumn foliage light-up at the Seiryu-en garden. In the Seiryu-en area visitors can relax and enjoy the autumn leaves, the gentle light created by the wearable art will add even more beauty to the place.
Finally in the kitchen vestibule visitors can enjoy two types of collaboration events.
On one side, a space with ikebana works by Ikenobo, the head of the Ikebana school of flower arrangement, and light flowers created by participants. A work in which the experience of ikebana has evolved into a participatory art unique to modern times. When visitors stand in front of the white wall in the front garden, flowers will bloom just as if they were arranging their own flowers.
In addition, you can enjoy a nice Autumn evening party with a drink and sweets made from delicious and authentic Uji powdered green tea from Fukujuen, a long-established tea shop in Kyoto, while listening beautiful music and contemplating the projection mapping.
A limited number of special tickets that includes a unique paper lantern personalized with your name went on sale on September 22 (Friday). The tickets also cames with a priority admission benefit that allows visitors to enter the venue without having to wait in line. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of tickets for the plan with name-printed lanterns will be donated to the preservation of Kyoto’s cultural assets.
