2021 Cherry Blossom Festival Cancellations in Japan due to COVID-19

The cherry blossom season is just around the corner in Japan, and in this time of the year, people usually start planning cherry blossom viewing and visit to cherry blossom festivals (Sakura Matsuri).

However, since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic kicked off in Japan about a year ago, there have been numbers of temporary closure of tourist attractions and cancellations of seasonal events. Sadly, cherry blossom festivals are not an exception and some of them are cancelled in order to prevent further spread of the virus.

Of course, cherry blossoms will still be blooming just like every year, and most of the places are open for public viewing. However, special events, food stalls and night illumination won’t be available at many cherry blossom viewing spots this year.
