Hozenji-yokocho Alley is stone-flagged streets and filled with over 60 tiny traditional restaurants and bars. The Hozenji area is connected to Dotonbori, the most delicious and bustling area in Osaka. Compared with Dotonbori, the alley preserves silent and old atmosphere from Edo Period.
There is a temple with lots of lanterns in the center of the area. It is named Hozen-ji Temple built in the 17th century. A Jizo statue, which is also known as “Mizukake-fudo” stands there. It is said love knots and prosperous business will come true when you pour water over it, so people visit the statue to pour water. That’s why it’s covered up with moss.
