Winter Illumination at Chura Yashi Park Okinawa Southeast Botanical Gardens

Chura Yashi Park Okinawa Southeast Botanical Gardens (美らヤシパークオキナワ 東南植物楽園) is a large outdoor botanical park located in Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture. It’s home to over 50,000 tropical and subtropical plants in 1,300 species including Alexander palms, za baobab, lotus and dragon blood trees. There are also about 50 species of animals such as capybara, squirrel monkeys and birds, and visitors can interact with some of the animals.
Chura Yashi Park Okinawa Southeast Botanical Gardens hosts one of the most spectacular light-up events in Japan every year, Okinawa Tropical Illumination (沖縄南国イルミネーション). It was ranked in the third place of the nationwide illumination award for two years in a row and also chosen as one of three best night views in Okinawa. In 2024–2025 season, this long-running illumination event will be held from 25 October 2024 to 25 May 2025.
The Okinawa Tropical Illumination features approx 4 million colourful LED lights, decorating the venue with the unique botanical garden motifs such as lotus flower, palm tree, hibiscus and jade vines. With the theme of “Shining Tropical Flowers”, it creates the magical world of lights with full of excitement and uniqueness to Okinawa. Visitors can enjoy watching and walking through the colourful lights displayed in various areas.
