Huis Ten Bosch (ハウステンボス) is a popular theme park in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu Region. The park is themed and decorated with a charming old Dutch town, representing the miniature sized town with a canal, ships, windmills, gardens and traditional European buildings. There are amusement rides, flower fields, theatres, museums, shops, restaurants, hotels, and more. The park displays various kinds of flowers during spring and summer which are the main attraction of Huis Ten Bosch. Also the park is known for the spectacular illumination event, the Kingdom of Lights, which used to be held only during winter, but now it’s available through the year.
Kingdom of Lights is accordingly the largest illumination event in the whole world featuring about 13 million lights displayed at the entire park. It’s also selected as number 1 winter illumination in Japan for 8 years in a row. In the past year, the Kingdom of Lights was entitled as one of the three greatest winter illuminations in Japan along with Sapporo White Illumination and Flower Fantasy at Ashikaga Flower Park.
Year by year, the Kingdom of Lights is becoming bigger as the event features new and more spectacular illumination to display. Last year, the new attraction, “Water Magic” has started, which is a spectacular and dramatic water show with the 85 m tall fountains featuring lights and music. Gardens, canal, streets, building, etc.. over 13 million colourful lights are displayed at several location in a various ways and decorating the whole park.
Moreover, the biggest Christmas Market in Japan will be set at Huis Ten Bosch during the season, too. Visitors can enjoy the traditional Christmas food, drinks and crafts at the authentic European style Christmas market. The special illumination “Christmas Lights” will be available until 25 December.
It’s definitely the most spectacular illumination in the whole world! Now the Kingdom of Lights at Nagasaki Huis Ten Bosch can be enjoyed through the year with different seasonal themes including spring, summer, Halloween and Christmas!

Hours: 10am to 9pm (varying hours)/illumination from sunset to closing time (Usually 5pm to 9pm)
