The culture surrounding Spring in Japan

Before we go to the list of events this weekend, let me share with you a little trivia regarding spring in Japan.

In Japan, spring is the season of “goodbyes and new encounters.” This is said because the school year ends in March; in other words, it is graduation season. It is sad to say goodbye, but it is also a season of hope and new challenges. In April, students will start the new year, and people who have recently graduated from the university will start their new jobs.

Spring is also the season of flowers. The coldness of winter will fade away as the warmth of spring comes along with the colorful flowers and related events. This can be said especially about cherry blossoms. Sakura-related events will be held nationwide, and Osaka is no exception.

Spring is also a season with many traditional days, such as Hinamatsuri (ひな祭り) and Shunbun no Hi (春分の日) in March, as well as Golden Week, which includes Showa no Hi (昭和の日), Constitution Day (憲法記念日), Greenery Day (みどりの日), and Children’s Day (こどもの日).

2. Detective Conan Cafe (Osaka)

The popular Detective Conan Cafe is back to be held in six cities in Japan, including Osaka featuring the all-time favorite theme food menus and exclusive merchandise available for a limited time only.

3. Osaka Light Festival 2025 “Special EXPO Lightning”

In celebration of EXPO Osaka, the  Festival of the Lights in Osaka 2025 will feature a special lighting and illumination in the streets of Midosuji, Nakanoshima, and in front of Osaka City Hall.

6. Jujutsu Kaisen Exhibition in Osaka

The popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen will be having an exhibition event based on its story written by the author Gege Akutami, featuring the contents, story, illustration, and characters. It will be held in Grand Front Osaka, divided into two types of exhibits between the first term and second terms, showing different exhibitions. The visitors can enjoy special merchandise, shops, and other special activities.

7. Special Exhibition: 18 Amazing Ukiyo-e Artists

An exhibition by 18 Ukiyo-e artists featuring a popular collection of art masterpieces and other paintings shown for the first time in the museum, including the famous Kitagawa Utamaro, the portraits of the beautiful women, and Katsushika Hokusai one of the well-known artists of the Edo Period.

8. The Great CAPCOM Exhibition

One of the great exhibitions in the game industry, the well-known video games company Capcom, holds an exhibition in the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka in commemoration of its long-standing inspiring to the gaming industry. It features original artwork of the popular characters, various activities related to the games, and shops selling limited edition items.
