For those who are residents in Japan, when going back to your home country, what means of transportation do you use to get to the airport? You could use the train, the limousine bus, or even a private taxi service. Or if you own a car, you can go to the airport and park your car there while you enjoy your visit back home.
Being able to go to the airport with your own car can be convenient in some ways, but can also have its downsides as well. In this article, let me share with you the information about the parking lot of the largest and busiest International airport in Japan, Narita Airport. I will also explain some of the pros and cons of using these parking lots.

Narita Airport Parking lot information
There are four main parking areas at Narita Airport which are P1, P2, P3, and P5. Depending on the terminal of your departure, you will be using a different parking lot.
P1 has a capacity of 1,800 cars, while P2’s cap is 590 cars, P3 is 2,700 cars, and P5 is 150 cars.
If you’re using terminal 1, then P1 and P5 are the closest ones. In the case your flight departs from terminal 2, then you’ll be using P2 or P3. And lastly, if terminal 3 is the one you need to go to, then P2 is the closest parking place.

Narita Airport Parking costs
Costs are a little complex since the costs are different depending on the parking lot. The way you calculate the cost also varies depending on how long you park. Since this is an article about parking your car during your trip abroad, I’ll explain only the costs when parking the car for over 5 days.
In the case of P1 and P2, the cost of parking your car after the sixth day is 10,500 yen (for the first 5 days) + 530 yen per day (after the sixth day). For example, if you park your car for 7 days: 10,500(first 5 days) + (530 x 2 days) = 11,560 yen.
In the case of P3 and P5, the cost of parking your car after the sixth day is 7,850 yen (for the first 5 days) + 530 yen per day (after the sixth day). For example, if you park your car for 7 days: 7,850(first 5 days) + (530 x 2 days) = 8,910 yen.
*note: these costs can change depending on the time that you pick up your car.

Pros and Cons of using Narita Airport parking
Before deciding to use Narita Airport’s parking, you should take into consideration if it’s worth spending the cost. Here are some pros and cons when using the parking.
Pros
- Don’t need to worry about transportation when you get back to Japan.
- You can pass by other places on your way home to buy groceries and stuff.
- Depending on the size of your car, you can take a lot of luggage.
- You don’t need to worry about public transportation hours.
Cons
- There’s a chance the parking lot is full.
- If your trip is long, it will get pretty expensive.
- You have to drive (even if you’re tired of the plane trip).
- The road to the airport can be confusing(for first-timers).
- You will have to come back to the same airport(even if you find a cheaper flight to Haneda Airport).
