Omiya Hikawa Shrine: Grand Head of 280 Shrines
Saitama’s largest shrine with 2000 Years History
Omiya Hikawa Shrine (大宮氷川神社), located in Saitama Prefecture (next to Tokyo) has about 2000 years history and is the grand head of 280 Hikawa shrines all over Japan.
There is the longest approach to the shrine, and rich green of numbers of trees cover the 2km long approach. You will pass through 3 red and large torii standing on the way.
During the festival seasons, numbers of stalls lined along the approach serve portable food such as Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki and drinks.
Beyond the third gate which is the entrance of the shrine site, the nice photo spot with the red bridge and the two-storied gate appear.
With good luck, you can see Japanese shinto wedding ceremonies at the shrine.
The vast park Omiya Park is located next to the shrine which includes a zoo and a museum. The park is also known as on of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites.
