Tokyo Winter Illumination: Tokyo Skytree Town Dream Christmas Illumination 2024
The new symbol of Tokyo, Tokyo Skytree is one of the must-visit sightseeing spots among tourists. In winter 2024, the illumination of Tokyo Skytree Town will be renewed to celebrate the 11th anniversary of its opening!
Tokyo Skytree is famous for being the tallest building in Japan, located in Sumida near Asakusa, the popular neighborhood. Tokyo Skytree Town will hold its annual event, Tokyo Skytree Town Dream Christmas 2024, a winter illumination event for Christmas, from November 1 (Friday) to December 25 (Wednesday), offering a festive experience filled with dazzling illuminations, a vibrant Christmas market, and live performances of beloved Christmas songs.
One of the event’s highlights is the breathtaking illumination that will transform Tokyo Skytree Town with approximately 500,000 lights. The Sky Arena, the main attraction, will showcase a spectacular 8-meter Christmas tree alongside with a 4-meter-tall statue of “Sorakara-chan,” the town’s mascot. Visitors can also marvel at a stunning illuminated Pegasus carriage from JRA Nakayama Racecourse.
In a new addition this year, the Staircase Graphical Lighting will brighten the Sorami-zaka and Hanami-zaka staircases with blue, purple, orange, and Christmas-themed lights, harmonizing with the lighting of Tokyo Skytree itself.
A standout feature of the holiday season is the Christmas Market located in the Sky Arena on the 4th floor of Tokyo Skytree Town. This enchanting market features European-style huts, or “Hütten,” adorned with charming Santa and reindeer ornaments imported from Germany. The lively atmosphere invites visitors to indulge in warm gourmet foods, mulled wine, and a selection of authentic German Christmas goods. On the opening day, a spectacular 4-meter-long stollen cake will be available for guests to sample by cutting it into slices.
During this festive period, the lighting at Tokyo Skytree transforms into something truly magical. Visitors can enjoy the “Champagne Tree” lighting, which casts a warm glow reminiscent of a Christmas tree, and the “Candle Tree” lighting, which showcases red and white lights that evoke flickering flames, on alternating days.
The festive spirit extends beyond Tokyo Skytree itself, as the surrounding areas are adorned with stunning illuminations. The observatory deck and entrance will be beautifully decorated for Christmas. Additionally, the “Tokyo Downtown Bamboo Lantern” event will take place between Tokyo Skytree Town and Asakusa, featuring captivating illuminations and lighting displays along the Sumida River Walk. A stroll through these illuminated areas is highly recommended to fully embrace the holiday magic!
Among the large number of Christmas illuminations that take place in Tokyo during winter, Tokyo Skytree Town Dream Christmas Illumination is especially recommended for those with children 🙂

I started to like Japan because of the anime, music and doramas, but after my first trip to the country I found what I love the most: traveling around, the culture and history. I have travelled a lot in Japan, but I still have many places to discover that I want to share with you🙋🏼♀️ Let’s discover Japan together!
Also, as a foreigner living in Japan for over 6 years I understand what kind of things are difficult when you move here and I want to help other people in the same situation that I have in the past.
