Starbucks Japan’s Autumn Beverage 2024: YAKIIMO Caramel Frappuccino
Starbucks Japan releases limited-edition beverages several times a year and especially their seasonal frappuccino are extremely popular and anticipated among Starbucks fans. Special frappuccinos usually feature seasonal themes or ingredients, such as cherry blossoms in spring, tropical fruits in summer and holiday theme in Christmas season, so people can taste a range of season flavours through the year, with the delicious beverages of Starbucks.
Autumn is a great season to visit Japan, known for autumn leaves turning the country to gorgeous warm colours of red, orange and yellow. Autumn in Japan is also known as the season of appetite, and there are a variety of seasonal ingredients that are harvested during autumn. Sweet potato is one of the signature food of Japanese autumn, and you can find a wide variety of sweet potato flavoured desserts and snacks sold during autumn.
This autumn, Starbucks Japan is introducing their autumn theme beverage “YAKIIMO Caramel Frappuccino”, which will be available at Starbucks stores nationwide from 4 September 2024. In addition to the autumn flappuccino, Starbucks Japan will also offer their classic Pumpkin Spice Latte as well as a range of autumn-flavour food items.
-YAKIIMO Caramel Frappuccino
The main ingredient for the frappuccino is baked sweet potato (yakiimo in Japanese), which is characterized by its delightful sweetness. By blending the sweet potato in chunky cuts, it brings a unique texture in the drink, allowing you to taste the arrival of autumn.
The drink is combined with bittersweet, rich caramel sauce, that gives a sense of the season deepening with the glossy brown colour. In addition, there is a secret ingredients inspired by the traditional French pastry Canele, which has a crunchy texture and a fragrant sweetness such as vanilla.
The sweet potato and caramel sauce are infused with rich flavours reminiscent of vanilla and rum, and there are chips inspired by the crunchy dough of a Canele mixed into the drink together with salty sweet potato chips as an accent. The crunchy texture that pops into the straw gives you a delightful sensation that makes you want to take another bite. The toppings sprinkled on the drink are also recommended to scoop up and eat with whipped cream.
Enjoy the autumn delicacy, with the sweet potato and caramel sauce mixing together every time you stir it with the straw, allowing you to savor the seasonal flavors until the last sip.

In addition to the frappuccino, Starbucks’ autumn signature Pumpkin Spice Latte will be also available from the same day. The drink is eagerly awaited every autumn at Starbucks stores around the world, and is also very popular in Japan. Inspired by the classic American autumn dessert pumpkin pie, it combines freshly brewed espresso with a rich pumpkin sauce and various spices such as nutneg, and can be enjoy hot or cold.
