Nintendo fans, rejoice! Kyoto, the historic heart of Japan and home to Nintendo’s headquarters, now finally boasts its very own official Nintendo store. Following the success of the first store in Tokyo in 2019 and the second store in Osaka in 2022, Nintendo KYOTO inaugurated in Autumn 2023 with a treasure trove of exclusive merchandise, interactive displays, and themed events. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new destination.
Located on the 7th floor of Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store, right at the busy Shijo Kawaramachi area, Nintendo KYOTO opened its doors to the public with much fanfare. The store’s design incorporates some traditional Japanese elements with the energetic and playful aesthetic that Nintendo is known for. And of course, offering a wide range of exclusive merchandise that can’t be found anywhere else.
Among its highlights we can find unique apparel and accessories with Nintendo’s most iconic classic characters from Super Mario, Zelda or Kirby franchises, as well as beloved hits like Animal Crossing or more recent titles like Splatoon. Keep an eye out for limited-edition collectibles and lovely handcrafted items that celebrate the artistry of local artisans!
Beyond the shopping experience alone, which is already a very strong selling point, Nintendo KYOTO features several fun spots to take memorable photos, like a statue of Mario grabbing the goalpost in the rooftop as a nod to the classical games, a giant Mario head emerging from a pipe in the first floor or even a underground murals in the passage under Shijo Street with accompanying background music.
