Miura Kaigan Cherry Blossom Festival 2025

Enjoy Early Blooming Kawazu Cherry Blossoms in Miura City

Miura Kaigan Cherry Blossom Festival (三浦海岸桜まつり) is a popular cherry blossom event held in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture in early February to early May every year.

The event features Kawazu Zakura- the type of cherry blossoms which start blooming from February to early March, which is much earlier than other cherry blossoms in Japan like Somei Yoshino.

Kawazu Zakura was first founded and cultivated in Kawazu Town on Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, therefore, it was named after the town and the the biggest Kawazu Zakura festival is held there annually (more info: Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival)

Other notable features of Kawazu Zakura is that the colour of the petal is very bright pink, and the shape is large and round. Its blooming period also lasts longer than other types of cherry blossoms and can be enjoyed for about a month.

Miura Kaigan Cherry Blossom Festival features over 1,000 Kawazu cherry trees lined along the railroad from Miura Kaigan Station to Komatsugaike Park. During the festival, there are food stalls selling local products and delicious food, and also night light-up of cherry blossom is held every day after 17:00.

If you like photography, you will surely enjoy taking photos of the row of cherry trees and local trains running alongside.Under the cherry trees, there are rapeseed flowers planted and making the beautiful contrast of vivid pink and yellow.

If you are travelling to Japan before the cherry blossom season (late March to early April), don’t worry, you still have a chance to enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms in the place like Miura City! Miura Kaigan Station can be access from Tokyo in 60–80 mins,by taking Keikyu Line which departs from Shinagawa Station.
