One of the oldest and most beloved theme parks in Tokyo, Toshimaen has closed its door in late August 2020 after 94 years, which was pretty sad news for Tokyo residents, but something really exciting was coming along.

Yes, it’s official. The permanent Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo has opened in 2023 summer at the former site of Toshimaen! The world’s second Harry Potter Studio Tour after London, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo — The Making of Harry Potter is a large scale, immersive facility, recreating the world of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

The Harry Potter studio tour facility Studio Tour Tokyo is an unprecedented hands-on entertainment facility! At the Studio Tour Tokyo, visitors can experience the fascinating world of Harry Potter by exploring the iconic film sets which were actually designed and produced by the creators of the film series. The facility is approx 30,000 square meters, and the exhibition space including indoor soundstage and outdoor backlot areas, and it takes about half a day to explore the whole exhibition space.

The brand new Harry Potter theme park has open in Tokyo in June 2023, and it’s already super popular and busy since opening. But the good thing is that the site adjusts the number of admission tickets so that visitors can have the best experience without massive crowds.

In 2021, the Harry Potter series celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, then, the magical world of the Harry Potter film series has been continued in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series. The Studio Tour Tokyo includes special features that allows visitors to learn more about the worlds of these two film series.

At the Studio Tour Tokyo, located on a sprawling 90,000-square-meter site the size of two Tokyo Domes, visitors can explore and fully enjoy the world of the Harry Potter film series by exploring the movie sets that were actually designed by the creators of the series and learn more about how the world of the original books has been brought to life on the screen.

There are various areas that Harry Potter fans will surely love, including the Great Hall that appears frequently in the movies, the Hogwarts Express at 9 and 3/4 that leads to the Wizarding World, the mythical Diagon Alley and more! In the Hogwarts Moving Staircase area, visitors can take pictures of themselves in front of the portraits and enjoy an interactive experience as if they were the actual moving portraits. In addition, visitors are invited to go behind the scenes of Harry Potter with indoor exhibits of costumes, props, and magical animals actually used in the films.

Also, in the space in front of the park’s entrance, there is a landscaping area with sculptures of magical creatures appearing on the films that both locals and visitors can freely enjoy.

Moreover, an original food menu expressing the magic world of Harry Potter is available for visitors! A total of four restaurants and cafes are in the facility: Food Hall, Chocolate Frog Café, Backlot Café, and Butterbeer Bar. Each of them offers a wide variety of food and drinks.

The highlight is the 9 and 3/4th All-Day Breakfast, served in the food hall and featuring the eye-catching 9 and 3/4th logo printed on cheese toast. The plate, which includes a fried egg, bacon, salad, and other items, is inspired by a traditional English breakfast.
