Kitakami Tenshochi: Enjoy over 10,000 Cherry Blossoms till May
The gorgeous late blooming cherry blossoms can be seen at Kitakami Tenshochi, Iwate Prefecture.
As Tohoku region is northern part of Japan and the temperature is low, cherry blossoms usually start blooming a few weeks later than other parts of Japan. The best time for cherry blossom viewings in Tohoku region is usually from mid to late April.
Kitakami Tenshochi (北上展勝地) in Iwate prefecture is a scenic park by Kitakami river and one of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Tohoku region. There are over 10,000 of 150 various kinds of cherry blossoms in 293 ha space. The cherry blossom festival is held during the season from early April to early May every year and visitors can also enjoy sightseeing boat, light-up of the trees at night and local food at food stalls.
The most popular activity here is horse wagon riding and visitors can have an unique experience of viewing cherry blossoms with riding a horse!
Along with the cherry blossoms, the traditional celebration of Children’s Day, carp streamers (koinobori) can also be enjoyed in the park during the season.
It’s the best opportunity for those who missed cherry blossoms in early April!
