NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2024: Autumn Light-ups

In Autumn 2024, NAKED will illuminate nine Kyoto sites, including Nijo Castle and Kitano Tenmangu

Autumn in Kyoto is a stunningly beautiful season, celebrated for its vibrant display of red, orange, and yellow foliage. From late October to early December, the city’s temples, shrines, and gardens are transformed into a picturesque canvas of fall colors. With pleasant weather and special events, including illuminated night views and seasonal festivals, Kyoto offers a unique and enchanting experience during this time of year.

In the fall of 2024, Kyoto will host the NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO art project created by the creative company NAKED, INC., which will run from September 14 to December 8. This unique event will spread across nine locations in Kyoto, each offering a distinct fusion of NAKED’s digital art with traditional Japanese culture.

Visitors will enjoy different cultural themes at each location. Nijo Castle will showcase traditional Japanese food, while Nishi Honganji will offer performances of Gagaku, an ancient court music. Higashi Honganji will feature Noh theater, Ikebana (flower arranging), and Kyoto’s famous cuisine. At Hieizan Enryakuji, you can admire traditional Japanese candles.

In addition, the event will also include autumn-themed activities at renowned Kyoto locations known for their stunning maple leaves, such as Kitano Tenmangu, Kurodani Kinkai Komyoji, and Ninna-ji. To complement these experiences, Kyoto Tower will be illuminated in red, reflecting the vibrant theme of the autumn garden.

NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2024, supported by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, will take place from September 14 to December 8, 2024. This autumn garden event will take place at nine key locations in Kyoto, featuring a mix of NAKED’s digital art and traditional Japanese cultural experiences.

The participating locations include:

  • Nishi Honganji (World Heritage Site)
  • Higashi Honganji
  • Hieizan Enryakuji (World Heritage Site)
  • Sakamoto Area of Hieizan
  • Nidec Kyoto Tower
  • Kurodani Kinkai Komyoji
  • Kitano Tenmangu
  • Ninna-ji (World Heritage Site)

Special Events:

Hieizan Enryakuji (World Heritage Site): Special opening of the Shaka-do Hall with a rare viewing of the secret Buddha statue, from September 14 to December 8, 2024.

Nishi Honganji (World Heritage Site): “NAKED Light at Nishi Honganji 2024” celebrating the 30th anniversary of World Heritage registration and the 800th anniversary of the founding of the sect, from October 1 to October 16, 2024.

Nijo Castle (World Heritage Site): “NAKED meets Nijo Castle 2024 Autumn Festival” from October 25 to December 8, 2024.

Nidec Kyoto Tower: Special light-up for “NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2024” on October 25, 2024.

Ninna-ji (World Heritage Site): “Ninna-ji Sea of Clouds Light-Up” with night viewings on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and holidays from October 25 to December 8, 2024, excluding November 1, 2, 15, 30, and December 1, 2024.

Higashi Honganji: “Hana to Hikari no Higashi Honganji” autumn special viewings on October 26 and 27, 2024.

Kitano Tenmangu: Special illumination of the historical Odoi Maple Garden from November 9 to December 8, 2024.

Sakamoto Area of Hieizan: “NAKED Night Walk at Hieizan Sakamoto” from November 1 to December 8, 2024.

Kurodani Kinkai Komyoji: Autumn special viewings from November 15 to December 8, 2024.
