Odaiba is an artificial island in Tokyo Bay that spans three wards: Minato, Koto, and Shinagawa.
Originally constructed as a coastal defense installation (then called “Odaiba”) when Commodore Perry’s black ships arrived in 1853 to strengthen Edo Bay’s defenses, the name has remained ever since. Today, Odaiba is renowned for its large shopping malls, leisure facilities, beautiful views, and diverse culinary offerings, making it a favorite spot for both locals and visitors.
2. How to Get to Odaiba
When traveling to Odaiba, you can choose from trains, buses, and water buses.
For train access, two lines serve the area: the Yurikamome line, which connects the major waterfront districts of the Rinkai subcenter, and the Rinkai Line, which operates through services with the JR Saikyo Line. The Yurikamome stops include “Odaiba-kaihinkoen Station,” “Daiba Station,” and “Tokyo Big Sight Station,” while the Rinkai Line’s nearest stop is “Tokyo Teleport Station,” providing a direct connection from Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. Additionally, limousine buses offer smooth transfers from both Haneda and Narita Airports.
