WANO AKARI X HYAKUDAN KAIDAN (和のあかり×百段階段) is one of the most popular summer events in Tokyo since 2015. The event features over 1,000 works of traditional and regional Japanese arts and crafts with illuminations. The event is held through summer from July to September.
WANO AKARI X HYAKUDAN KAIDAN art illumination is held annually at Hotel Gajoen Tokyo (ホテル雅叙園東京), one of the most renowned long-established hotels in Tokyo, providing luxurious guest rooms, top quality hospitality, gorgeous and historical structures, and the Japanese garden with waterfalls.
The hotel is situated in Meguro area (less than 5 mins walk from Meguro Station) which is an amazing location to access many Tokyo’s landmarks and tourist areas such as Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku and more. Hotel Gajoen Tokyo is also a popular venue for wedding ceremony, and offering amazing photo shooting session for both Japanese and Western style.
WANO AKARI X HYAKUDAN KAIDAN takes place at “Hyakudan Kaidan” area of Gajoen Hotel on 3F, the 80-year old wooden building that has been registered to a Tangible Cultural Property of Tokyo. The beautiful stare paths and inside the small rooms features Japanese-Western fusion style architecture with gorgeous and artistic interior. It’s also known as one of the places which inspired the creation of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.
Hyakudan Kaidan consists of 99 steps staircase with the ceiling with beautiful paint, and 7 Japanese style rooms. Each room displayed illumination artworks with different concepts featuring traditional Japanese themes and the modern designs.
