Several Christmas events are held in Tokyo from November including authentic European style Christmas markets, typically serving traditional Christmas food, hot drinks and displaying special decorations with Christmas trees and illuminations. Let’s celebrate Christmas in the most traditional way!

1. Roppongi Hills
Tokyo’s oldest Christmas market “Roppongi Hills Christmas Market” is held at Roppongi Hills’s Oyane Plaza. The Christmas market has been held to recreate the one in Stuttgart, Germany which is known as the largest Christmas market in the world. At the market, traditional German Christmas food, beverage and over 1,500 Christmas crafts are sold.
Along with the jolly Christmas atmosphere in the market, enjoy the romantic winter illumination at Roppongi Hills held during the same period, displaying a huge Christmas trees and the famous Keyakizaka Street illumination.

2. Tokyo Christmas Market

Tokyo Christmas Market is an outdoor European style Christmas market that has been held in Tokyo since 2015. The event brings together European holiday flavors like hot wine, sausages, and baked sweets, along with German and European Christmas goods and decorations as well as festive illuminations and live music. In 2025, the event will be held at two venues, Jingu Gaien and Shiba Park, each with its own unique theme.
At Jingu Gaien, the theme is Grimm’s fairy tales and European stories, creating a magical atmosphere filled with colorful lights and music while the Shiba Park venue focuses on traditional German culture and craftsmanship, offering an authentic Christmas market experience reminiscent of Germany itself. The highlight is a 14-meter Christmas pyramid, installed at both venues.

3. Azabudai Hills

Azabudai Hills is a new complex consisting three skyscrapers in Toranomon district, Tokyo. The AZABUDAI HILLS CHRISTMAS MARKET is an authentic and stylish Christmas market that features 17 shops in total including Käthe Wohlfahrt, a German Christmas decoration company and the restaurants from Azabudai Hills, selling Christmas goods and delicious Christmas food. The market is centered around a symbolic Christmas tree decorated with approx 20,000 LED lights and five types of light ornaments.

4. Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree Town hosts a special Christmas event “Tokyo Skytree Town Dream Christmas” from early November to late December. The event features the festive illuminations with approx 530,000 LED lights, gorgeous Christmas tree, the special lighting effect of Tokyo Skytree and authentic Christmas Market. The market offers warm food, desserts and drinks which guests can enjoy while enjoying Christmas decorations and illuminations.

5. Yebisu Garden Place
Yebisu Garden Palace is one of the best winter illumination spots in Tokyo, displaying the world’s biggest Baccarat chandelier, a massive 10m tall Christmas tree and over 100,000 LED lights. During the season, a French style Christmas Market “Christmas Marché” is held at the site with small wooden huts selling hot snacks and drinks and Christmas goods. It’s highly recommended for couples as it has very romantic atmosphere.

6. Marunouchi Street Park

Marunouchi Street Park is a Christmas event taking place in the Gyoko-Dori Avenue and the Marunouchi Avenue around Marunouchi, Otemachi and Yurakucho areas. The event features various fun and festive contents from mid November to late December, including a Christmas market, a kitchen car, an ice skate rink Marunouchi Street Rink, and Tokyo’s top winter illumination spot Marunouchi Illumination.

7. Tokyo Christmas Advent
Ueno Onshi Park’s Hakamoshi Plaza will host the inaugural Tokyo Christmas Advent, a major Christmas event originating from Fukuoka. This festive gathering features a grand Christmas market, illuminations, and classical music performances, offering a rich cultural experience. Visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal treats, handcrafted goods, and exclusive Ueno Park-themed merchandise. Open daily from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM, the event transforms the park into a winter wonderland, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.

+Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Christmas Market

This one is not in Tokyo but it’s very much worth mentioning since it has a great access from Tokyo with an approx 30 mins train ride. The large-scale outdoor Christmas Market is held at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse in MM21 area in Yokohama City, featuring traditional German food, drinks, crafts, a Christmas Tree and illuminations . The retro brick warehouse is a perfect locations to make such a great Christmas atmosphere. A large ice skate rink is also open for winter which is located next the market.
