Along with the original song “Let It Go” by Idina Menzel, Frozen caused a massive social phenomena across the world. The film achieved significant commercial success, earning over $1.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue, including $400 million in the United States and Canada and $247 million in Japan. It ranked as the highest grossing film of 2013, and the third highest-grossing film in Japan (after Spirited Away (2001) and Titanic (1997)). It also overtook Toy Story 3 as the highest-grossing animated film at the time as well as the highest grossing musical film before being surpassed by The Lion King in 2019. A song from the film, “Let It Go” has also gained international recognition with numerous covers being recorded in different languages and sold 10.9 million copies in 2014.
