Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatouro (京都嵐山花灯路)

While many people visit Kyoto from mid to end of November for autumn leaves viewing, If you miss a chance to visit in these period, don’t worry, there is something very exciting still comes up late in the year.

Kyoto’s Hanatouro Festival is held twice a year: March in Higashiyama area and December in Arashiyama area. Hanatouro (花灯路) means “ path with flower and light”, and literally the illumination lightens up Kyoto’s pretty streets at night during the festival for 10 days.

Arashiyama is a popular touristic area in Kyoto, and there are numbers of important historical sites and beautiful scenery with rich nature. Hanatouro illumination will be taken at several locations in the area, including the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge (渡月橋) and Bamboo Grove (竹林の道).

It’s the only time of the year when you can enjoy these famous tourist attractions with romantic illuminations. Don’t miss a chance to stroll down the streets by night and see a different side of Kyoto.

In 2021 winter, Kyoto Hanatouro illumination will be held in Arashiyama area for 10 days from 10 to 19 December. It’s announced that this will be the last year of the event after being held for 17 years.
