What’s Machiya??
Machiya (町家) is a traditional wooden townhouse in Kyoto (sometimes called Kyomachiya) and many of them has been surviving over 100 years. Many Kyoto residents still live in Machiya houses but some of them are transformed to restaurants, shops and hotels nowadays.
