Delicious Hokkaido Desserts from Soft Serve Ice Cream to Cheesecake!

Hokkaido is the kingdom of sweets! Besides their delicious local food such as Sushi, Ramen and BBQ, don’t you forget to try their most delicious sweets and desserts! And New Chitose Airport is the best spot to eat various kinds of sweets before taking off from the land of gourmet. There are numbers of Hokkaido’s confectioneries and cafes at the airport where you can enjoy local specialties till the last moment before departures. Let’s check out their delicious treats!


1. LeTAO (ルタオ)

LeTAO is a popular confectioner from Otaru city best known for Double Fromage cake (a baked cheese case topped with Mascarpone cheese mousse). As well as delicious boxed sweets perfectly suit for souvenirs, LeTAO in New Chitose airport also has a cafe space where you can sit and enjoy the fresh desserts!

2. Calbee+ (カルビープラス)

Japan’s №1 potato chips company “Calbee” is also known for famous snacks such as Jagarico, Kappa Ebisen and Hokkaido’s popular souvenir “Jagapokkuru”. What’s delight about Calbee+ is that freshly made snacks are served in the shop which you can never buy in anywhere else. Try freshly fried potato chips coated with the chocolate from Hokkaido’s best selling chocolate company Royce’!!

3. Hanabatake Ranch (花畑牧場)

Hanabatake Ranch was originally established in Tokachi city and has became sansationally famous all around the country for “nama caramel” which is soft and melty fresh caramel. Including the best selling nama caramel, Hanabatake Ranch in New Chitose Airport provides various kinds of sweets. My recommendation would be soft ice cream made with farm milk and topped with hot caramel sauce..hmmmm

4. Kinotoya (きのとや)

A capital city Sapporo based sweets company Kinotoya is best known for the freshly baked cheese tarts “Yakitate Cheese Tart”. Also their current hit is the gigantic soft ice cream called “Gokujo Gyunyu Soft”. In New Chitose Airport, there are numbers of sweets shop sell soft ice creams but Kinotoya’s one is the tallest of all!!

5. Kitakaro (北菓楼)

Kitakaro deals with the best cream puffs! There are always 3~5 different types of freshly made cream puffs sold at the shop and often sold out before closing time! Kitakaro is also known for serving the best rice crackers made with Hokkaido’s local ingredients including seafood and they are perfect for souvenir or in-flight snacks!

6. Snow Brand Parlor (雪印パーラー)

The parlor by “Snow Brand Milk Products Co., Ltd.” which is one of the biggest dairy products company in Japan established in Sapporo. The parlor serves several flavour of soft ice cream and parfait. The soft ice cream of Snow Brand has been beloved by locals for many decades. Taste the local!

7. Shiretoco Sky Sweets (シレトコスカイスイーツ)

The cutest sweets we can spot ever in any airports. Based in Eastern Hokkaido, Shiretoco Sky Sweets shop sells baked donuts and cakes in a most adorable way. The colourful donuts filled with small bear shaped cakes are not only extremely cute but very tasty which are blended with local honey and caramel. They might be too cute to eat though!
