Every winter, Fukuoka proudly hosts the largest Christmas market in Japan. This year, the Christmas Advent (previously known as the Fukuoka Christmas Market) is set to take place from November 1 to December 25, 2025. The event will feature various locations, including the JR Hakata Station Square and Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City.
If you are considering taking a trip during the Christmas season, Fukuoka and the surrounding area, although less known, have much to offer. Especially during Winter, you can also visit cities such as Nagasaki, famous for its Christmas town at Huis Ten Bosch. This winter, enjoy the Christmas season while traveling to Kyushu!
Christmas Advent has grown significantly since 2023, featuring around 150 vendors throughout the Fukuoka area. This festive event includes Christmas markets and vibrant light shows that extend from Hakata to Nakasu and Tenjin.
Under the theme Christmas that Resonates with the Five Senses, the event highlights light, sound, and art. Visitors can stroll through beautiful displays, enjoy music from classical to pop, and taste delicious food, creating a joyful holiday experience for everyone.
Christmas markets will fill the JR Hakata Station Square, Fukuoka City Hall West-side Interaction Square, and Fukuoka Daimaru Elgala Passage, featuring festive decorations and charming wooden huts or Hütten offering gourmet treats like hot wine and grilled sausages alongside other European Christmas specialty goods.
In 2024, the event will expand to include markets at Momochihama Seaside and near the Murasaki River in Kitakyushu. Each venue will sell unique mugs with Christmas designs, perfect for collectors.
The entire area will transform into a “belt of light” with stunning illuminations. Tenjin Central Park will showcase a Light Forest, while Nakasu Central Street and surrounding areas will create a magical streetscape known as “Nakasu Hikari no Advent.” A giant Santa Claus decoration and large-scale displays at Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City Square will complete this festive atmosphere.
