Exhibition: Gege Akutami “Jujutsu Kaisen” to be Held in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka in 2024-2025
Jujutsu Kaisen (呪術廻戦), written by Gege Akutami, is a popular Japanese manga series, featuring dark fantasy/adventure story set in a world where Curse Energy harms humanity and with character with supernatural powers. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2018, and was also adopted to TV anime series and animated films, by an animation studio MAPPA.
The popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen is not only in Japan but it’s worldwide as it’s been one of the most trending and discussed animations these years often referred “JJK”. It has sold over 90 million copies so far, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
The most exciting news for Jujutsu Kaisen fans just came up as it’s announced that a special exhibition of Jujutsu Kaisen will be held in Japan! The Exhibition: Gege Akutami “Jujutsu Kaisen” (芥見下々『呪術廻戦』展) will take place in Shibuya in summer 2024, then in Osaka and Fukuoka in spring and summer 2025.
Exhibition: Gege Akutami “Jujutsu Kaisen”
The exhibition will feature the behind-the-scenes story of the creation of Jujutsu Kaisen revealing the process of creating the works using digital drawing methods along with commentary from the author. The exhibition will showcase how the stories, characters and illustrations are created and refined, as well as valuable storyboards and sketches before they are submitted as final manuscripts.
In addition, there will be a photo spot featuring background images that represent the worldview of Jujutsu Kaisen. Visitors can enjoy taking photos against the backdrop of solid background images drawn by elite assistants.
When you visit the exhibition, make sure to check out the original merchandise exclusively sold at the venue, including art boards of famous scenes, figure collection, stickers, T-shirt and keyring.
Tokyo venue: The Tokyo exhibition will take place in the Hikarie Hall of Shibuya Hikarie, a high-rise shopping complex directly connected to Shibuya Station, from 6 July to 27 August 2024. During the exhibition period, Shibuya Hikarie will host a special event “Hikarie Jihen”, featuring a special decoration and several photo spots inside the building, using the illustration of Jujutsu Kaisen manga series as well as limited-time menu served at some of cafes and restaurants.
Osaka venue: The Osaka exhibition will be held at Grand Front Osaka North Building Knowledge Capital from 19 April to 9 June 2025. A collaboration cafe will also open at CAFE Lab. on the 1st floor of the building for a limited time, offering a total of 10 original items (food, drinks and desserts) inspired by the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series. Fukuoka venue: The Fukuoka exhibition will take place at Fukuoka City Museum. Details will be announced later.
