What is ASAGIRI JAM?
ASAGIRI JAM (朝霧JAM) is an outdoor music festival held since 2001. It’s organized by SMASH, an event company that also organizes Fuji Rock Festival. The event takes place over 2 days in early October at the Asagiri Arena in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, featuring approx 30 performing artists from Japan and overseas, and attracting over 20,000 attendees each year.
Although the Fuji Rock Festival is named after Mt Fuji, and it does not take place anywhere near the mountain, however, ASAGIRI JAM is actually held at the base of Mt Fuji and the mountain can be seen from the event venue. People enjoy the live music while camping in the lush green of Asagiri Plateau at the foot of Mt Fuji.
ASAGIRI JAM is more than just a simple music festival as it involves various contents including art, culture, food and camping that can be celebrated with live performances. The event is for everyone from children to adults, and event pets. The name “JAM” comes from the idea of “a gathering of musicians from all genres to have fun together.”
At the blissful setting with Mt Fuji towering over the venue, you may be able to capture the various expressions of the mountain and natural phenomena during the this time of year, including the Diamond Fuji where the sun rises from the summit, the Red Fuji where the mountain turns red with the morning sun and sunset, and the season’s first snowcap.
ASAGIRI JAM is smaller in scale than events like Fuji Rock Festival, but every year it brings together an incredible lineup of multi-genre artists, including some big names and Japanese music legends. The past acts at the event include Jack Johnson, Belle and Sebastian, The Chemical Brothers, Manu Chao, Takkyu Ishino, and CORNELIUS.
