Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival
There are numbers of fireworks festivals across the country during summer, and it’s one of the most exciting things to see in this season in Japan.
If you are seeking to watch fireworks, but something more special than ordinary ones, I highly recommend you to visit the fireworks at Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Miyajima island is a popular tourist sites, where the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Itsukushima Shrine is located. The shrine is mostly recognized by its magnificent red floating torii gate.
Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival is held at Itsukushima Shrine every year in late August. The festival attracts over 300,000 visitors every year, and it’s considered one of the most spectacular fireworks in the country. The fireworks are set on the sea behind the torii gate, which create gorgeous view as over 5,000 fireworks explodes in dark water.
The fireworks festival is absolutely free to watch, but if you wish to catch the best view or to photograph the fireworks, it’s highly recommend to visit there earlier in the day and keep viewing spots.
Or you can also book special viewing seats (6,000 yen per seat) in advance. It’s not cheap but the view must be incomparable. The tickets for the seats are sold from 1 st July and can be booked only by phone.
NOTE:
The official committee of the “Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival” has announced to discontinue the event. The event originally started in 1973 and ended in 2019 with nearly half a century of history.
