Event List in Tokyo This Week (June 19 to 25, 2023)
The best events, activities, and exhibitions held this week in Tokyo

In Japan, people tend to say autumn is the perfect season to get in touch with culture such as literature, art, food, etc. Because of this, it is also a season when you’ll see many cultural events across Japan, especially, in Tokyo.
Tokyo, being such a large city, has many events happening simultaneously. Because of this, it might be difficult to keep track of events that you’d be interested in. From art exhibitions, theatrical performances, and musical concerts to cultural festivals and seasonal food-related events. And some of these events are just a couple of days long.
That’s where this article will hopefully come in handy. I have created a list of events for this week in Tokyo. If you live in Tokyo and have some free time, or if you happen to be visiting Tokyo during this week, then I hope at least one of these events will interest you to check it out.
Summer culture in Japan
Before going to the list, let me explain to you a little bit about Summer events in Japan. When we talk about Summer, we usually refer to mid-June through mid-September. Summer is when you will see the most number of events happening around Tokyo. This is primarily due to the fact that summer vacations are the longest vacation for people attending school. It is the season when families and friends get together for activities and trips.
When it comes to Japanese traditional events, there is Marine Day (海の日) and Japanese Summer Star Festival (七夕) in July, Mountain Day (山の日) in August, and Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日) in September. Other than this, there is also Obon (お盆) which takes place in either mid-August or July. Obon is the Buddhist festival to welcome the spirits of your ancestors and is one of the most important holidays in Japan.
Summer is also when you will see many festivals such as Omatsuri and fireworks festivals.
